Not Shahid Kapoor But Imran Khan and John Abraham Were First Offered Batti Gul Meter Chalu

It all began when Vipul Rawal (the original story writer of the film) went to Imran Khan to ask him if he would like to lead the cast of Batti Gul Meter Chalu. That time, Vipul was in talks with Prernaa Arora to prouce the film and had plans to direct it himself. Imran heard the script patiently, liked it, and Vipul went home rather satisfied. But destiny had other plans. Imran told Vipul that he was a bit busy as he was planning to direct a film, and then Vipul landed up to meet John.

"I don't know what happened but Joh went on to do Parmanu for Prerna. Honestly, I don't know what were the issues between them. Nishikanth Kamath was sitting with John when I narrated the script to John. So, woh bhi nahin hua," Vipul tells SpotboyE.com EXCLUSIVELY.

And then, Shahid (who had his 2nd baby last Thursday) came into the picture. And in fact, it was Shahid who was keen on having Shree Narayan Singh as director because he was very impressed with his last film Toilet: Ek Prem Katha. At this point, Vipul had happily decided to remain as the story and screenplay writer of the film. "Maybe big stars were a bit wary of having me as director, and they wanted someone established. But it's okay. I had a beautiful story and I wanted it to be told," Vipul adds.
